The emerald cut diamond is a rectangular shape with truncated corners and a broad and flat plane that resembles stair steps when viewed from above. This style is referred to as a ‘step cut’. While it typically has less fire and brilliance than brilliant cuts, the broad flat plane of this shape highlights the clarity of a diamond and its natural crystalline rectangular growth. The optimum clarity is VS1/VS2 or higher.
A customer of ours has an emerald cut diamond pendant set in 14K yellow gold, that we made for them many years ago.
She wanted to update the look to something she would wear more often. She decided on using white gold this time. The emerald cut diamond will be set longways in a high polished besel. Circling around the diamond are smaller round diamonds set with prongs. The chain will attach to the loops from a jump ring, so the pendant will move freely. All around the outside border of the pendant is a design to look like tree branches, free form and airy. These are the CAD computer aided design, images of the pendant, we e-mailed to her.
Below is the finished necklace, & the customers original pendant. As you can see we turned her plain outdated yellow gold pendant into a fashionable, gorgeous, diamond necklace. We used her emerald cut diamond & supplied the smaller round accent diamonds. Now, instead of the necklace sitting in a drawer, we utilized her diamond, which kept the price down, & she has a brand new necklace to wear.
