The diamond is the traditional birthstone of April, and is the most coveted gemstone to date. 
By far the most popular shape is the Round. All things being equal, the round will always give you the most brilliance & luster, because of the way it is faceted.

The Princess cut is also very popular. It has pointed corners, and it is faceted similar to a round diamond.  Typically they are either square or rectangular in shape. The Princess cut is sometimes referred to as a square modified brilliant.
